KATASTROPHIC is an independent, locally manufactured clothing label in Austin, TX. Each design is produced in small runs, often with hand dyed and American made organic fabric. Each collection includes both intricate statement pieces and fine tuned basics. Created by Austin based designer Melissa Taylor in 2008, Katastrophic focuses on using high quality, hard to find fabrics to create long lasting, comfortable, beautiful and daring clothing.
Specializing in lingerie and casual wear, Taylor’s collections are based on concepts that come out of the things she finds herself spending most time thinking about, struggling with, hoping for, and being excited about. Those ideas are explored in the format of highly wearable wardrobe basics to provide clothing that is comfortable, flattering, versatile, and durable; and also beautiful, challenging, and inspiring.
The materials and manufacturing process is as important as the designs themselves. Melissa Taylor is committed to social and environmental responsibility. Each collection utilizes domestically grown and milled organic cotton, and the entire line is manufactured in-house or locally at living wages.
